Saving Private Ryan

Cinemaster Score: 8.5/10

Overall Review

When it comes to historical dramas – or more specifically, war dramas – there are a select few that stand out far beyond the rest. Amongst those you have classics like Apocalypse Now, as well as newer additions such as Hacksaw Ridge. However, it’s hard to overlook Saving Private Ryan. Saving Private Ryan is a World War II tale that follows a squadron on a rescue mission for the titular Private Ryan – the last surviving of his brothers. The movie is rich in ethical and moral questions, provoking the audience to put themselves in the characters’ shoes. This is made easier by the solid writing and direction that make each character unique from one another, despite their similarities. Spielberg (Director) is finds himself able to marvelously craft a bleak tone during the film that captures its setting, using dull colors in the cinematography throughout. Saving Private Ryan has a fair share of action, too; which is spaced perfectly to keep viewers engaged and make ir hard to notice just how lengthy the runtime is (nearly three hours). Put simply, Saving Private Ryan is an unforgettable epic from iconic director Steven Spielberg
