Cinemaster Score: 9/10
We didn’t expect Ford v Ferrari to be anything special when seeing the first trailer – especially considering it looked like just another “Oscar bait” biopic. We were severely mistaken. Not only is the film an entertaining thrill ride full of tense car races and excellent performances, but it is also an emotionally resonant experience that stands out for its willingness to embrace the calm moments. There are scenes with near endless amounts of edge-of-your-seat action; as well as small moments that speak to the inner passions we all possess. Matt Damon and Christian Bale are the highlights of the film, with their strong chemistry and touching performances guiding the movie through its highs and lows. Of course, there is plenty of racing going on, too, as the filmmakers have crafted superb sequences that fully immerse the viewer into the driver’s point of view. The combination of excellent editing and sound design creates plenty of visual and auditory delights that make the film feel easy to watch despite its two and a half hour runtime. Ford v Ferrari is an amazing experience to say the least, with little to find wrong. From the compelling performances and stirring scenes of tense automotive chaos, to the truly emotional and inspiring moments that drive the film’s soul – it’s a film experience that sticks with you long after the credits roll.
