Indiana Jones (Franchise)

4 – Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull; The reboot. Most classic franchises have at least one. But – as we see here – they usually fall short when compared with the rest of their franchise. With Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull it isn’t hard to tell whether the production was; an idea of story continuation that ended up good and profitable or; a cash grab that they developed a story around. Clearly this film was the latter. While the story and action are good and the movie is fun to watch, it is an obvious play on the audience’s nostalgia to even the first film. The movie isn’t really bad per se. But, when almost all of it’s best qualities are pulled straight from previous films and given just a dash of modernization, it is unjust to consider it to have superiority. Cinemaster Score: 7.1/10

3 – Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom; This movie – even though it came out three years after Raiders of the Lost Ark – is a prequel chronologically for reasons unbeknownst to most as it has few ties to the others in the series. The film is criticized quite a bit for its much darker tone than the rest of the franchise. But, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is entertaining nonetheless. The side characters are arguably better than in the first film. The story is interesting, even if it is too dark for some. The action looks good but there are some corny and improbable occurrences within Dr. Jones’ feats. The rest of the movie is better than average but not quite amazing either. Cinemaster Score: 7.8/10

2 – Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade; The Last Crusade is a sequel that is arguably as good as the original. The action scenes are even more daring, the chemistry between actors is perfect, and the inclusion of a secondary character (Sean Connery) adds greatly to the film’s strengths. We also get to learn more about Indian Jones himself, with his backstory being fully fleshed out. This makes for a more relatable Harrison Ford performance that won’t soon be forgot. The plot itself is also very entertaining and full of twists most wouldn’t expect in an Indiana Jones movie. The Last Crusade is a great action film – and the perfect sequel. Cinemaster Score: 8.9/10

1 – Raiders of the Lost Ark; Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of the best movies of all time. It gave us what is debatably one of the most recognizable characters with Indiana Jones. Harrison Ford plays him with a rugged charm many have failed to replicate in recent years. As for the film itself, the plot has near perfect pacing with memorable moments in almost every scene. Steven Spielberg solidified himself as one of the best directors ever with this movie, creating an icon that would be remembered for years to come. Raiders of the Lost Ark also has amazing action scenes for its time, out-doing some of the big budget action films we have today. Without a doubt, Raiders of the Lost Ark is a classic movie, with almost every aspect of it perfect. Simply put, Raiders of the Lost Ark is a film that comes along once or twice in a lifetime and will never be forgotten. Cinemaster Score: 9.6/10
